Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Skills with Paint Shop Pro & AnimationShop.
Needed: Paint Shop Pro & AnimationShop
EyeCandy4000
“Jiggle-Turbulence”although Brownian Motion
is a good alternative in the selections in
EyeCandy.
I am using Paint Shop Pro 8 but adaption to other versions
should work just fine.
I do go into some length explaining
my thoughts and reasons to make it
more understandable about what we
are doing.. Don't let the length of the
steps scare you or put you off ok?!
The hard part:
Select a graphic with water spouting or a basic
waterfall. This tutorial is not really meant for
just a calm body of water…
(that is my other water animation tutorial).
This tutorial is just to show you how to make
the animation itself. It is up to you how you use
it or display it.. like in a Frame, Side Border
tile, vignette tag or whatever ok?! All right!
????????????????????????
1 Open your graphic in Paint Shop Pro,duplicate
it and close out the original. If your
layer is saying BackGround then you
will need to promote it to a raster layer.
Layers/Promote BG layer
Many of the effects will not work on a
layer named Background!!!!!
1 Image/Resize … Smaller is best.
I usually make mine no bigger than 400 pixels
either way and as small as 300 at the biggest
point but I usually use them as headers or the
picture on the side of a long sideborder tile.
2 At this point you need to do the framing aka
add a border, maybe a feathered ellipse shape,
could be you want to add a canvas to the right
to make the long sideborder tile if that is the
direction that you decide on.
This is up to you and I trust that if you do not
know how to do any of these things there
are plenty of accessible tutorials to show you
how.
3 Add your watermark …. this may include
adding a raster layer, watermark, moving it
into position.
If you do it this way then you need to
Layers/Merge so you finish with only 1 layer
on your layers palette.
4 Selection Tool: Select the water that you want
to animate.. This doesn’t mean all of the water.
I would not select small insignificant portions
and only select the parts of the water that is
falling or spouting ! LOL
Choose the selection tool that will work best for
your graphic characteristics.
I wrote this tut using a graphic in which the
majority of the water was a close similar
color so I just had to use the magic wand and
toy with the tolerance setting once.
I did have the mode set to ADD so I wouldn’t
have to hold the shift key down on my keyboard
to select multiple areas.
If the water is multiple colors then I use the
freehand selection tool … Zooming in to be
more accurate.
Do Not select any area right next to a
border!
Note about Selection Type: I don’t think the
Smart Edge if very good for this type of thing..
I prefer the point to point making multiple
clicks as I outline the water.
5 Depending on the accuracy of your selections
you might be smart to do this. If your hand was
a little shaky and parts around the edges
contain some small parts that should not be
animated you might want to Modify/Contract
by 2-3 to get the selection a little away from the
original edges that you have selected.
Practicing and familiarization of this type of
animation will let you know when this is
desired.
6 Duplicate this layer 3 times.. still selected and
rename them as I have below if that helps you.
Word up y’all: The numbers all stand for the
Bubble Size that will be applied to that
particular layer in this next step.
7 Make the bottom layer the active layer in
your layers palette
8 Effects/Plugins/ EyeCandy 4000 / Jiggle …
Click on Settings
and select the Turbulence.
Settings are shown below.
9 With your waterfall selections still active:
Click on each layer making each layer active
one at a time and applying the Turbulence to
same setting as the name of the layer that you
are working with.
10 File/Save As ….
(a)Change the Type as Paint Shop Pro,
(b)Name it
(c)Type in .Paint Shop Pro at the end and save to a file.
***************************************
1 File/Jasc Software Programs/Animation Shop
2 File/Open your .Paint Shop Pro file that you just saved.
3 Edit/Select All
4 File/Optimization Wizard
Gif checked
I like to use the Create a new animation option
because if I don’t like what It looks like at the
end I just close it out and I still have the
original undisturbed sitting there to start over
again with no fuss .. no muss.
Try the Better Image option at different levels.
Use these setting…UNchecked .
Continue to the Finished option and look at
the top where it says Optimized File to see how
big your animation is going to be and % change
to see how much it has been optimized already.
Press Finish, like it ? Is the quality of the
appearance to your liking?
It is?!~ skip the next step!!!!!
5 Don’t like it…close it out and start from
File /Opt Wiz again!
6 Animation/Frame Properties … Usually a
setting between 15 and 25 looks best when
animated.
You will have to sit back , observe different
settings and choose the one that looks best to
you.
I used 20 on the one on this tutorial.
7 View / Animation
Don’t like it? View/Animation to stop repeat
previous step!
8 Like it?
File Save As: name it and save as a .gif type.
***********************************************
I must say that this type of animation has gotten
myself a lot of comments and how did you do
that for a long time and I am glad to share the
glory with you!
Have fun with it!
Hugs
Hooty
Remember to Watermark your creations!
