UNDERWATER Technique

HootyTut© by Hooty aka Doyle Allen  5/22/04

Use as a tag or a Header!

Approved by the HootyTutTesters!

Needed: Intermediate
I used Paint Shop Pro8 which has a built
in Ripple effect.
Skill Level: Basic Knowledge of Paint Shop Pro8 and
Animation shop will help bunches!

1 Preparations:
Open a graphic in Paint Shop Pro8,
Resize to about 280 pixels on the longest sides.
This size is what I am recommending to start
with...of course you can make it any size
you like, but usually bigger is a larger file
size of course.
Sharpen and enhance as needed.
Edit/Copy
Edit / Paste / Paste as new image
Close (X) the original.

2 Image/Add Borders = 10 symmetric

3 Magic Wand: Select the new border

4 Add any fill or effects to make your
simple frame out of that border.
It should be noted that in testing that
sometimes when the border color was
too light that it created an undesirable
white-ish appearance as the ani ran.
Recommended: Choose a darkish color(s)
or color(s) that closely matches the outside
area of your graphic for the border.

5 Selections / Invert

6 Still Selected, Duplicate 3 times so you
end up with 4 layers with the same image
and a selection active.

7 Effect / Distortion Effects / Ripple
Settings:
Horizontal = 50    Amplitude = 3
Vertical = 50          Wavelength = 30
Transparent is checked!

8 Ctrl + Shift + F  or Selections/Defloat

9 Click on copy 2 on your layers palette.
should be the 2nd one from the top.
Apply the Ripple again but change the
Wave Length to 32

Ctrl + Shift + F  or Selections/Defloat

10 Click on copy on your layers palette.
should be the 3rd one down from the top.
Apply the Ripple again but change the
Wave Length to 34

Ctrl + Shift + F  or Selections/Defloat

11 Click on the bottom layer.
Apply the Ripple again but change the
Wave Length to 36

Ctrl + Shift + F  or Selections/Defloat

12 Selections / Select None

13 Optional:
Layers/Add new Raster Layer
Add your watermark or text or both if you
want. Use the Mover Tool to move into
position.
Note that you only want to end up with
5 layers in total when you finish.
So if you use 2 separate layers merge the
two.

14 File / Save as / Type = Paint Shop Pro Image
File Name...WhatEverYouLike.Paint Shop Pro
Be sure the extension ends in .Paint Shop Pro

Activate Animation Shop

1 File / Open , open the Paint Shop Pro layers that you
just saved.

2 Scroll over to the last layer...now a frame
which has your text/watermark on it and
left click on it and drag it off onto the
work area.

3 Edit / Copy  (copying the text frame)

4 Click on the graphic stack to make it active

5 Edit / Select All

6 Edit / Propagate Paste

7 Edit / Paste / Paste into Selected Frame

8 Move your cursor around until your text
is in the postion that you want it to be in.
Then left click on your mouse to set it into
place!
Close your text frame.. You are done with
it

9 You may want to select all the frames
and use the File/Optimization Wizard.

10 You may want to Resize the animation.
Animation / Resize

11 View / Animation
If the effect is going too fast  then click on
the X on the animation that is running
Animations/Frame Properties
All the frames should still be selected in
the animation.
Seems like the bigger the image you use,
the slower it needs to go.
It starts at 10  but you my want to adjust
10 all the way up to 40.
Repeat 11 from the top until you like the
animation.

12 File / Save as

Remember to Watermark your creations!
